Have Your Doors Been Worn Out?

One of the widely used part of our home day in and day out are our doors. Each time we leave our rooms or go to work, we make use of the knobs, the locks and all components of the door as we go. With the reason as simple as that, our doors and all parts get worn out as years go by. Door locks in specific get worn out and there comes a point in time that we need to replace them or simply have to hire a locksmith for a repair.

Another reason that our doors and locks get worn out is because of mishandling the manipulation of locking and unlocking it. At times, we tend to be on a rush and twist the keys or push the padlocks improperly. If locksmiths thinks that they cannot be repaired anymore, then you would have to get your set of locks replaced. Twisted keys could also be a reason that you cannot open your locks, and these are as well something that a professional can remedy.

Here's post by Eastway Lock and Key which explains to us some common problems we encounter with our doors due to constant usage.

Entry Doors and Door Repair: Common Problems Due to Constant Usage

Of all the doors in your building, your entry doors – the front door and the back door – are most likely the ones that get used the most. It’s no surprise, therefore, that they are more prone to breaking down and needing repairs. Here are some problems brought about by constant usage of your entry doors.

Malfunctioning Locks

The one thing that could keep your facility secure could also be a security hazard if not maintained properly. Malfunctioning locks not only leaves your front door vulnerable to break-ins but can also lock you out of your own building during the most inconvenient times. Experts in doors and door repair say that the most common issue that causes these are misaligned strike plates.

Skewed Door Frames

Do your entry doors not close properly? Don’t opt for replacement just yet, as there’s a chance it’s merely a problem with the frame. There can be cracks and splits along the frame that would need repairs. Broken hinges can also be the culprit, however, so be sure to check each one. If your door looks like it’s sagging, inspect the top hinge closely. Often, its screws just need some tightening from bearing the door’s weight.

Electrical Wiring

Doors connected to security systems make your building safer, but errors with the electrical wiring can put you more at risk. It could be that your current hardware is damaged or is not compatible with the rest of your security components. You will need help from an electrical hardware consultant to make sure everything is in working order...read more!

There are many ways to also avoid getting our doors worn out. As much as possible, we don't want to replace our doors and locks every year. For many, these things should actually last for a lifetime. Some would expect to only replace them during a home improvement project and some would believe to get locks replaced when there's a threat of theft at home.
